Military Suicide and Family Court By The Numbers

June 29, 2016 1:32 pm

United States MilitaryI have some statistics I would like to share with you.

Approximately 319 million: that is the size of the US population.

Veterans account for 2.5% of that population. CDC records indicate there are roughly 40,000 suicides in the USA PER ANNUM.

Veterans comprise 23% of that number.

2.5% of the population of the USA accounts for 23% of all suicides nationwide.

I’m not done. CDC records 15,048 suicides or attempted suicides – known & confirmed – for Veterans in 2014. That’s not 22 a day.

That’s 41 a day.

Second Class Citizen started out as a non-custodial parent’s rights organization for Veterans, until we researched the data and discovered that one third of those military and Veteran suicides could be tied directly to family courts and custody issues.

ONE THIRD of all military and Veteran suicides.

And, we believe those suicides are preventable. This is our mission at Second Class Citizen. Please, consider donating or at least helping us spread the word. Thank you so much for your time.
